Moving...

So... I've been blogging here as Touch of the Phoenix on blogspot for several years. I'm realizing that I'm spread all across the web... scattered in little pieces here and there. Websites and numerous blogs. Facebook. Twitter. MySpace. LinkedIn. Bebo. Everywhere. So many sites and links and such to keep up with that I am not doing a very good job.

Thus and therefore...

I'm condensing and simplifying. I'm moving over to WordPress.

Oh stop your whining.

WordPress is a much friendlier platform for website blogging. That's all. :)

So... to continue following my witty-ness, go here... angiekmillgate.wordpress.com/blog/

Looking forward to playing with you again!

Time and Rhythm

When I ventured out on my own back in August, there was a time when I was not blogging very often because I hadn't figured out my life's rhythm. I am finding that, now that I am at work and co-oping at my daughter's school again, I am in that space again where I am wondering where blogging fits in. And my Meditations. And MySpace. And Facebook. And Twitter. And Animoto. And... and... and... (Lord, help me!)

I made a commitment to stay in integrity with this job that I renegotiated. I am certain that my integrity will have full impact on how I experience this job. However... glitch... (as you can evidently see by the fact that I am writing this post in the middle of the afternoon from my desk at the office...)

I love writing my blog posts and my Meditations. I love that I have an opportunity to freelance for a new magazine here in Utah. I love my art, creating it and selling it. And I love paying my bills on time.

I feel like I have begun, once again, to DO too much all at once. I find that I sit at this desk, yearning to create that slideshow that needs to be created. Or finalize the DVD project that needs to get off to Louisiana and is giving me all sorts of nightmares because it has been one flub up after another. I yearn to finish the paperwork to get Above the Clouds published. FINALLY! I want to complete those proposals for Certainty and Fear and Awakenened.

There is a lot on my plate and it seems that time is running too quickly and the rhythm has escaped me. So things start falling away.

Part of the falling away process is that I am in fear. Money fear. It's up. It's big. And it's here. Right in my face. Again. It's nothing new. I see that fear and I begin to do because doing is all I know. It's silly, really. I keep doing. And doing. And doing.

It's the same thing I've always done.

The results, therefore, are the same.

Of course they are. Why wouldn't they be?

Duh!

Okay... so my time is full. My rhythm is off. And I'm still doing.

At some point, I am going to make a change.

In the meantime, blogging may be sparse, my friends. May be.

Then again, maybe it won't be. It certainly is a nice diversion!

500...

Welcome to post number 500! Wow! I am laughing at myself because when I first started this blogging stuff about 2 years ago, I thought it was just a passing phase. HA! That's cute! I am an addict now. I love this! And I'm wondering... are there 12-step groups for bloggers?

At any rate... other than singing kudos to myself about being a blogaholic, I am here for a real reason.

Last week, in the midst of death, I created. At first, all I knew was I wanted to paint. It has been over fifteen months since I have picked up a paint brush because it feels difficult here at my father's house. Sooooo... I just haven't done it. A little part of me was fading away because I wasn't feeding that aspect of my artist's fire. In the throes of grief, all I could think was, "I need to paint!" So I did.

I am really proud of the finished product which I gifted to Nat and Joe in honor of Adrianna...

The text reads:
Adrianna
Beautiful Angel
Bridging two worlds with joyful ease
Co-creative Genius of receiving
Touching our lives with love and peace
A shooting star blazing brightly
A soft whispering wind and blowing snow
Always in our hearts
Forever a part of all we know
Beautiful Angel

Curiosity

I received a flattering message from a stranger the other day. This person seemed to be down on their luck, having just lost their job. They were cruising the internet researching ways to pay their mortgage through blogging. They had tripped across my blog, somehow, and quoted to me a couple lines from my post Fearing Genius. "I am getting that living in my genius will save my life because living a life that is run by fear will surely kill me - either by illness or some act of destruction which is attracted to my fear.I am getting that living in my genius will enliven my life because it takes the charge out of the stories I create to stop myself." They said that reading that had improved their whole outlook for that day.

I was flattered. A stranger had read my words and found comfort. WOW!

Now, the curiosity...

#1 - Can one truly pay their mortgage through blogging?
#2 - If that is the case, how do I sign up?
#3 - How did someone who was searching for information about paying their mortgage through blogging end up on my blog???

Clarification

Tonight, when I arrived home, dad and his wife were in the kitchen. The house smelled delumptious and I was grateful for that because I was ravenous to the point that all I could think was, "I'm hungry. I'm hungry. I'm hungry."

Dad kindly and lovingly said, "I'd like to talk to you about your..."

His wife finished, "Blog post."

I suspected they were referring to Marching Morons but held my tongue and waited.

"The one about your cousin's daughter's blessing," dad offered.

Ugh. It was the Marching Morons post. Damn.

He smiled and paused. I imagine there was some sort of internal battle going on for him, considering that post did not put his religion in a very good light. And the person who wrote it was his very own daughter. I imagine there was some sadness and maybe even anger in there. If the roles were reversed, how would I handle it? Would I even address it?

"Where you called ceremonies rituals."

Definitely Marching Morons. Crap.

I nodded.

"I'd like to answer some questions you had and clear up some falsehoods. "

Ugh. Not sure I want to be in this conversation. Breathe, Angie. Just breathe.

"I didn't really have any questions, Dad."

"Well," pause, "Okay. About the circle. The father is able to be inside, in the center of the circle holding the child if he wants. He just isn't able to form the circle with the Elders."

"Well, he was told he wasn't allowed to be a part of the blessing process."

"He should have been able to."

"Well, he wasn't."

That topic finalized, we moved on to the next... "The Elders put their hands under the baby and bounce the baby to comfort the child, not because it is protocol. Also, the reason the Elders put their hands on one another's shoulders is to form an eternal circle of Priesthood power."

"I figured as much. And that makes sense. I know the significance of circles and the symbology of eternity in them. I know about the strength of linking up to form a continuous circle of power. I have done it in some of the healing groups I have participated in."

Next... "You had mentioned that you thought the religion was a cult."

Shit. Not exactly that, but I can see how he thought that it said that.

"Actually, what I said, Dad, was that it was now easy to see why someone who does not understand the religion could see it as a cult. Especially anyone who has had any experience with witchcraft and occult rituals, all of which circle up in much the same manner. I didn't say it was a cult. I said it was easy to understand how others could view it as such now."

The conversation in the kitchen was fairly level headed. Dad looked me right in the eye and we talked adult to adult. His wife, though, kept silent and seemed to vibrate in her corner. I don't think she was happy. But she didn't say. She mentioned that she didn't feel good, so perhaps that was the reason for her silence. I don't know. It felt like more than that.

At the end of the conversation, Dad said, "And you said some other stuff at the end, which I am not going to address and just let you think about it."

My daughter chimed in, "Momma, what did you write?"

Knowing what the end of the article says, I felt trapped. It wasn't something I wanted to verbalize in front of them because it felt disrespectful of their beliefs. Yet, I have always told my daughter she would get the absolute truth from me, no matter what she asks. Cornered and a bit angry, I said to my daughter with a gentle smile to reassure her that it wasn't her I was angry with, "I will gladly talk with you about it. However, out of respect for your grandparents, I will not talk about it in their presence."

She nodded and let it go.

Now, three hours later, I sit here writing this and wondering... my family is getting ruffled by my words so do I begin to censor what I write here? This is my processing place. I have a commitment to my truths and the expression of them. I feel sad that I have bothered them and my brother (evidence of that in the comments of Left Out) with stuff I have written. Then I sit back and I look at the computer screen. This is my blog, which I have deemed to be my journal. I write out my heart, my dreams, my hopes, my fears, my anger, my love and whatever else hits my fancy. Whether right, wrong, good, bad or indifferent, it is what it is.

And, I just decided... it is what it is and as it is, it is! And that is how it will remain.

Tuesday

Today, after yesterdays Blog-A-Thon, I am feeling somewhat spent and have been sitting here, staring at the screen for quite some time waiting for something brilliant to come forth.

And, when it did, this is what I got...

Nothing.

Well, at least not in the way of words.

Sometimes a writer-artist becomes an artist-writer and, instead of resorting to words - as is her norm - she must tap into other parts of her soul to pull forth that which is waiting to be released.

So... thus we have it...

200 Posts?!

Well! I just realized that an anniversary came and went this morning without my acknowledgment. Oh! For shame!

Happy 200th Blog anniversary to me!

One by One

A blogger friend, J.M. Tewkesbury posted a blog today that sounded like fun and I think I will try it out...

As per JMT, who stole it from a friend, the rules are pretty basic. Take the first line of the first post from every month in 2007 and play the game.

Hold on! This should be fun... (author sidenote here... I realized that many of the "first posts" may possibly be Meditations. Later on in the year, if that is the case, then they are all going to read the same thing... Click here for this week's meditation, which would be an entirely boring blog entry. Therefore, since I am the Queen here, I will choose the next first entry to post.) I am going to add a link to the post in the month header that way if you are really enticed, you can easily go there to finish the read. :) Damn! Aren't I such the helpful blogger. OOOO! And, I will also include one pic if there was one. Sheesh! I can't help myself.

January...

2007 started quietly today – that sort of hushed stillness that falls over a land of people who made merry into the wee hours of the morning the night before.

February...

I had prepared an entirely different Meditation for today. Then, something happened which led me to believe there was a special message that needed to be shared...

March...

I have been prompted to write about “Personas” and I feel a little nervous about doing so.

April...

Last night I went to a quaint Italian restaurant with my daughter and mother.

May...

Spring has, indeed, sprung here in my fair city and has seemingly stepped aside for summer.

June...

Many friends have questioned, "Where have you gone, Angie? Why are you not blogging anymore?"

July...

I arose at exactly 3:25 am.

August...

A few days ago, for some reason, I had the image of a praying mantis pop into my head.

September...

Some days I surprise myself.

October...

Oh my God!

November...

Somehow... it is already November.

December...

(For December, there were three "first day" posts, two of which were movie critiques. One for Darjeeling Limited and another for The Golden Compass. So I am opting to post the first line of the third first post, not that it is any more interesting than the other two.)

I just realized that when I am tired, small things are large and big things are insurmountable.

Party Talk

A newfound blogger friend, J.M. Tewkesbury, posted a challenge in a Holiday Party Meme (challenge is here; original post of questions is here) that I absolutely could not resist. I have to admit... I love these Memes. And, what's more... I am continually amazed by the brilliance that is dancing around on this wonderful web we weave... heeheehee... alliteration!

Soooo... I chose to take on the third challenge... here is my response:

Dateless and daring, Darling Angie danced down another darkening dream and developed desire, avowing decisiveness as an attempt at dismissing doubts. She shuddered, shouted and shimmied shyly into beautiful blatant black attire, adding purple plum perfection for final fabulousness. Knowing nobody knows Darling Angie anyway and a party provides perfect prospects for feeling fun, frisky and free, Darling Angie danced down another darkening dream.

Darling Angie was greeted greatly with grins and grasping embraces embellished with smiles, smooches and small talk which healed her heart. Friends forever filled the spacious span of sparkling lights, warm wonderful wonders and melodic, moving music.

Happiness had happened! Darling Angie had danced down another darkening dream and landed lots of love and laughter. Each exchange expanded exponentially into intriguing, interesting, inclusive experiences of unbelievably unique unity.

Dateless didn’t deny celebration, as she danced down another darkening dream. Darling Angie was welcomed with widespread arms and allowed an amazing time to take to heart, her humbled heart, total truth which was: Darling Angie decided she doesn’t desire a date at all at this time! Anyway, Angie’s friends already find her fabulous!

One More?

Help me! I've blogged and I can't get up!

Sheesh... I walk away from this computer of mine and I am plagued with all sorts of things I want to write about. My creative juices are flowing and I cannot stop them. I want to write and write and write. And, for a writer, THAT is a good thing. Unless, of course, it interrupts what I am meant to be doing right now. Like, for instance, showering so that I am ready for the day and can go pick up my daughter from her father's.

Ummmm... yeah... I can skip the whole shower and fix the hair thing and cut off a good 45 minutes!!! Wooohooooooo!

And here I am, back at it.

I am laughing at myself.

Especially because what I have to write about in this moment, which seems so imperative to record, is actually quite trivial...

Banana bread made from the box tastes entirely different than banana bread made from scratch. Neither worse nor better. Just... different.

My Mom hates it when people compliment me in front of her. Why is that? And why is it that my aunt, her sister, seems to hone in on that and adoringly coos and ooohs and aaahhs over me whenever the three of us are together?

I am irritated by the WIFI connection here at my father's. It is unreliable and constantly drops. Grrrrrr...

My all time favorite Christmas song ever is "White Christmas" by the Drifters, I think. It's the one they use in Home Alone while Macaulay Culkin is "shaving" his face. The version where the voices are alternatingly deep and high. Ba-doom ba-doom bopbop bop bop ba-doom ba-doom bopbop bop bop... I'm dreaming of a white christmas...

My least favorite Christmas song is "Carol of the Bells." Ick. Oh no, wait. "Little Drummer Boy." Yeah... no... "I cry when I take the Christmas Tree down..." That one, for sure! Oh, wait. You haven't heard that one? Oh! I'm sorry. That means you haven't been privy to the sappy-Mormon tradition of The Forgotten Carols by Michael McLean. I used to be one of those googely-eyed people that sat in the crowded, noisy, over-hot high school auditoriums every Christmas along with everyone else in Mormondom to watch the musical. I used to love the songs. I hate most of them now and cringe or change the station when I hear one. Damn! I really have become the Ex-MormonGrinch.

Look out hell. Here I come!

Yep. See. Totally random.

*sigh*

I feel sad...
For about three months now, I have had a laptop computer in my care.
Its daddy is coming to take it home tomorrow.
I feel sad about that because I have been very inspired to write lots while I had it with me. I had started a new book. I had finished editing my other two. I feel really grateful for how inspired I have been.
Yes. I feel sad.
I am holding space for another laptop computer to show up in my life.
This time, for good.

Printing Surprise

Last night, for some reason, I felt inspired to print off all the stuff I have written here and in my MySpace blog. I had no idea what size of an endeavor it would turn out to be, nor how much paper it would require. A full ream and three hours later the project was finished.

I was surprised.

However, in the end, I was a little bit impressed with myself because I saw how much I really do love to write. And, humbly enough, I am actually really good at it!

Yes, I am patting myself on the back. :)

Monday

Rainy days and Mondays always get me down...

One of my old favorites... the Carpenters. Love 'em.

But, today, it is Monday. And it's cloudy. And I don't feel down.

I think that is a good thing.

Where am I?

Many friends have questioned, "Where have you gone, Angie? Why are you not blogging anymore?"

I am still here. However, like a lot of my other prolific-blogger friends, I have discovered what happens when one actually gets a life.

What have I been doing? you ask.

I am building my business and have been surprised by the response. It is amazing what happens when I commit to something and then allow the Universe to support me - instead of fighting against it which I am seemingly wont to do. In building my business, I have launched a website, which you can visit by clicking on this graphic: The website reveals a lot about who I am and what I do, so if you are feeling voyeuristic, it's a good place to start!

Also, I have taken my Meditations of the Week to the world, which means I will no longer be posting them here. I was scared by this move. Really scared. But, I feel excited now and would love for you to join the adventure for FREE. CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE!

And, as many of you know, I just celebrated a birthday. Last night I manifested the most magical, love-filled celebration I have ever had. Endless thanks to those of you that participated in that event. My heart is still singing.

In the beginning...

I have realized that, pretty much, I have been blogging my entire life - pouring out my heart in words. The only difference is, it was private and in journals that I horded away so others could not venture in. Somewhere in my mind, I had justified that the words would be read by someone in another time. And that was okay. Just not now when I am alive to be embarrassed or have to explain myself.

I mean, really, come on! Who is going to read my words? Then, I realized that that stream of thought was the one stream of thought that has undermined me all along. A writer, without readers, is simply that – a writer. I am an author! An author requires readership. How can I become a published author if I am unable to believe that others will read my work, my words? Isn't that the point of getting published?

Once I got past the concept of being hidden in my writings and saving them for some other time, I began to explore ways to branch out. My first endeavor was my Meditation of the Week. This has been an ongoing experiment for about four years now – with a one-year sabbatical along the way while I found my true path. It was exciting, this knowledge that what I had to write was being so well received. But it was only a small and select group of people.

Then, I was encouraged to actually talk about my Meditations. To share them. To let others know of them. I excitedly watched my subscription list double, then triple then explode. It was invigorating!

Shortly thereafter, I came back into contact with a dear friend who had published her first book. I excitedly watched and participated with her on the beginning of her journey to becoming a World Famous Author. I watched her footsteps, learning from her as she went. Which, was a first for me. Usually, I choose to learn by doing – and crashing. Rarely, do I simply watch and learn.

Along the way, I discovered that she was maintaining four separate blogs. First of all, I thought, what in the hell is a blog?? And what a disgusting sounding word! It sounds like something you do in a bathroom.

I began exploring, researching, looking for information about this word: blog. At first, I was taken aback by the concept of blogging. I had difficulty wrapping my brain around the fact that millions of people out there are writing every single day simply for the joy of it and they are doing it in a way that is open for all to see. What an amazing concept! And I jumped in with both feet, instantly, through MySpace.

I am exploring realms of financial abundance through my passion for healing and writing - and any combination thereof. By so doing, a business mentor and one of my trainers suggested, "Is there something that you are doing now that you could/should be getting paid to do?"

I began to wonder. Wondering is an amazing tool that has been shown to me by some of my closest friends and mentors.

Hmmmm... I wonder how I can get paid for doing some of what I already do...

And I wondered. And I wondered. And I wondered.

Then, I read a blog entry recently posted by my dear, published friend. She has discovered you can get paid to BLOG!!! This opened entirely new realms of inquiry for me.

And so… the journey begins. Yet, again.
