At Work

After a week of me being home sick and delirious, Lil Red Cube was feeling a little delirious herself. Deliriously delighted to be at the office, she danced upon the keyboard and did all sorts of important work.

Adventure Continues

It was another beautiful day here in Salt Lake and Lil Red Cube decided she likes it enough that she thinks she will stay. I've discovered that she is quite the dare devil, enjoying things like bungee jumping - without the bungee - from high places and spinning in circles for long periods of time.

Yesterday marked the day that Lil Red Cube landed in her emotions and discovered her expressions. That has been fun to watch her come alive! Her first expression was a big, toothless grin and it showed up when I found a throne for her to sit on. She spent the afternoon being Your Royal Redness and feeling all queenly.
Then we went to the movies. She thought that the previews rocked, but told me that the movie (He's Just Not Into You)was absolutely boring. She doesn't get why men and women are such dorks when it comes to relationships. After watching the mediocre movie, I was wondering the same thing myself. However, I did particularly enjoy the scene where the actress said, "You want me to run away from all the guys that don't like me? There won't be anyone left!"

I laughed right out loud on that one and got a few shushes from nearby. The irony for me was, I related all too well! And I wondered, if there won't be anyone left then why do I want to be with them in the first place???

The movie talked a lot about how women are raised with fairy tales about love and prince charming. They showed how we talk to one another, telling lies to boost up the spirits of the wounded woman in our midst, "He feels threatened by your success..." "He has never been in a longstanding relationship..." yada yada yada... There is this theme of The Rule vs The Exception and they clearly state that every women wants to be the exception. The one male lead who was trying to "train" one of the women about "truth and dating" kept saying, "You are the rule!"

Interestingly enough, in the end, two of the three lead women ended up being the exception promoting, further, the fairy tale myths of romance. And the third lead? Well, she started out as being the exception to the rule and ended up heart-broken. So, is that to say that being an exception is temporary?

Ye-eah... there were a couple of good lines that caught my attention, but it was too much for me. Just too many games. Bring on a movie about co-creative, conscious relationships. Please!

Lil Red's First Day

Yesterday, Lil Red Cube had many adventures with me. Like me, she loves going for rides in the car and she giggled ecstatically as we went around the curve and she slid around in a spinning dance. Feeling brave, she asked if she could drive the car. Given that she is unable to see over the dashboard, I offered to give her directions while she steered. We had fun until she over-corrected and we ended up driving on the curb.
After she tumbled to the floor from that adventure, giggling and snorting all the way down, she asked to sit up a little higher so she wouldn't get car sick. The most perfect place for her was here... And from that place, she could see the whole world going by. She was especially happy with the sunshine and how it felt on the smooth surface of her body.

I discovered that she likes the smell of coffee and the warmth that it radiates from the cup. However, unlike me, she doesn't like the taste of it. Not even when it's laced with as much sugar as I use. I sure am enjoying having this new friend around.

Manifestation

A couple Life Skills classes ago, we did a guided imagry where we went on an adventure with the voice in our head that always stops us. Megan asked us to get a clear image in our heads of what that being looks like. I was surprised to discover that my voice belonged to a character that looked horribly close to the scary-looking old lady in Howl's Moving Castle. I was curious about that, but chose to just let it be without analyzing it.

After we got familiar with the being, Megan guided us to a contraption that we were going to place this being in to transform it to something/someone who would be more constructive. My contraption looked like a cross between Sylvester McMonkey McBean's Star-Belly Sneetch Machine and Willy Wonka's Everlasting Gobstopper Maker. All sorts of curves and swirls, horns and whistles, lights and bells, smoke and bubbles.

When she popped out on the other end, I felt disgruntled. Our beings were supposed to transform into something more helpful, more friendly. What popped out in the palm of my hand was a red cube, no bigger than a 25¢ gumball. I stared at the object.

What the...? A friggin' red cube? What the hell do I do with a friggin' red cube? How is THAT more helpful?

The red cube lay in my hand motionless. I turned my hand this way and that, wondering what would happen next and how a simple red cube could be helpful to me. Then the memory of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium came rushing to me.

There is a scene where Mr. Magorium gives Molly a solid wooden cube. When she asks him what she is supposed to do with it, he says, "It's a Congreve block. It has limitless possibilities."

She spends the rest of the movie trying to figure out what she is supposed to do with the block of wood. As her frustration mounts, she is beginning to give up. She realizes that the Congreve block is meant to be magical, but she doesn't believe she is magical until... she realizes she is.

I liked the reminder that I am magical and that I have limitless opportunities and abilities.

I came out of the quest, declaring that I wanted a real red cube for myself and I left it at that until...

Today! I was straightening the classroom after all the kids had gone to their homerooms. There, on the back table sitting in the very center was a red cube. I picked it up and looked at it, expecting it to be a bead or a game piece of sorts. It wasn't. It was simply... a little red cube.

"Honey," I turned to my daughter who was helping me straighten the room. "Do you know what this goes to?"

"I've never seen anything like that before in this classroom. It's yours, Momma."

I stared at the cube in disbelief. There it was. My very own Lil Red Cube.

And tonight she went to Five Guys Burger and Fries with us for dinner. We discovered that she prefers her Sprite to Fruit Punch ratio to be heavily weighted on the Punch side, much different than my own taste. We also discovered that she likes to play computer games.

Stay tuned for the many adventures of Lil Red Cube.
